Cactus and Succulent Field Number Query

This form will take a cactus and succulent collector's field number (e.g. KK 2005), and return data on that plant if available.

Enter the field number, e.g. "KK2005", or "A 91/I/10a", or "MACD A101", and press return

No distinction is made here according to capitalisation, so e.g. KK, Kk and kk are all treated the same. Likewise, accents are ignored, so e.g. for , you would simply enter KS.

If you get errors, please report them to me.

Other Queries

Note that the related field collector service may be used to find the identity of a given field collector in many cases even if this service can provide no details of his collections. The field collector service also may provide useful notes about a collector which may help to interpret results of a search for a given field number.

If you want to enter a cactus or succulent species (e.g. Rebutia heliosa), and find field numbers corresponding to that species, use the field number finder instead.

If you want to search for plants found at a given locality (e.g. Sierra Medina), please use the field number locality query service instead.

If you already have the collector's name (e.g. Karel Kníže), and want to find the acronym(s) used by that collector (e.g. KK, KZ), please use the field collector's acronym query service instead.

This service currently includes details of at least some of the plants collected under the following acronyms:
A, A&M, AA, AB, AD, ADB, AG, AH, AHB, AJB, AL, AM, AN, AW, AWBM, AWC, AWMB, B, B&K, BAIC, BALLY, BB, BC, BDH, BE, BENSON, BIG, BKN, BKS, BLMT, BLOSSF, BO, BR, BSGW, BU, BV, BW, BZ, C, CARD, CB, CH, CHA, CI, CS, CSD, CW, CX, CZ, D, DAR, DF, DFF, DFM, DH, DJF, DK, DM, DP, DP&K, DSW, DT, DU, DV, E, EFA, EG, ES, EVJ, EZ, F&W, FA, FGB, FH, FK, FKH, FN, FO, FOSTER, FPAN, FR, FRS, FS, G, G&GOLD, GBG, GC, GD, GDR, GH, GIFT, GJA, GL, GL&DONEY, GL&F, GL&KIMNACH, GL&MENDOZA, GLASS&GLASS, GM, GN, GOMEZ, GOMEZ-H, GR, GS, H, HAJ, HERNANDEZ, HJ, HJK, HK, HN, HNT, HR, HS, HT, HTH, HU, HUN, HV, IAS, IB, IDD, IF, ISI, J, JA, JAA, JABO, JB, JBG, JC, JD, JDV, JF, JIR, JJH, JK, JL, JLH, JM, JN, JO, JP, JPR, JS, JSK, K, KA, KAS, KBC, KCS, KF, KFF, KG, KH, KJN, KK, KKR, KLAK, KMR, KPP, KPR, KR, KRZ, KS, KSS, KVV, L, L&B, LAU, LB, LF, LH, LLOYD, LM, LNO, LRM, LS, LX, LZ, M, MACD, MAO, MAW, MB, MBB, MC, MDF, ME, MES, MG, MGH, MGI, MH, MK, MKR, ML, MM, MMR, MN, MO, MRO, MS, MSG, MSN, MT, MU, MZ, NBG, NM, NPT, OLV, P, P&W, PAN, PAR, PC, PCL, PCO, PD, PEH, PF, PH, PHA, PIL, PM, PN, PP, PR, PV, PVB, PVB&EH, R, RAP, RAUH, RBC, RC, RCH, RCP, RCPB, RD, REEVES, REP, REPP, RF, RFPA, RH, RITT, RKH, RM, RMF, RNK, ROG, ROSE, RP, RR, RRM, RRP, RS, RW, RWB, S, SAR, SB, SCHL, SE, SH, SIAS, SL, SP, STO, TB, TG, TJ, TK, TL, TO, TOM, TS, UL, V, VA, VCCB, VM, VOS, VS, VZ, VZD, W, WCB, WCO, WG, WH, WJB, WK, WM, WO, WP, WR, WRA, WS, WTH, Z, ZJ, ZR, ZRI.

Note that lists for some collectors are highly incomplete.

In some cases, there may be more than one acronym corresponding to the same set of numbers. For example R and WR are used for Rausch's numbers, L and LAU for Lau's numbers, and so on.

Most field numbers are of the form "KK 2005" or "L 995a", i.e. after the initials is a collection number, and possibly a trailing letter. Other common formats are of the form "HK 57.3", "ISI 93-3" or "JDV97/30", with a dot, dash or slash in the number.

Some collectors like IGR and RH use "/1", "/2", etc, after the number to denote specific clones of that collection, e.g. "RH201/1". For such collectors, any suffix of this kind should be omitted.

Collection numbers for A are of the form "91/I/4", "91/II/4b" (where the middle part is a Roman numeral), "93-17", or "93-46/1".

Collection numbers for AG are sometimes of the form "12P49".

Collection numbers for AJB and MACD are of the form "180", "A101", "B250", etc. To avoid confusion with a non-existent collector "AJBA", "MACDB", and so on, make sure you enter a space after "AJB" or "MACD", e.g. "MACD A101".

Collection numbers for BB, BLMT, GC, PH and others are of the form "123.02". Try leaving the leading zero off after the dot if searching with it fails, e.g. try "123.2" for the example shown.

Collection numbers for BALLY are sometimes seen as "BALLY E 123", "BALLY S 123" or "BALLY K 123". Just enter "E" for the initials and "123" etc for such cases: the BALLY part may be missing.

Collection numbers for BE are of the form "93-9/34".

Collection numbers for BKS are of the form "93/1", or "93/4/1".

Collection numbers for CS are of two forms "4.3", and "4.2_5". The former denote locality and photo number. The latter denote an actual collection, where the number after "_" is the collection number.

Collection numbers for FH sometimes contain more than one dot, and sometimes end with an asterisk, e.g. "29.3.1*".

Collection numbers for GH, GN, JPR, STO and WP are of the form "88-25/37", "88-85a/214", "89-21/24a", "88-73/", "88-1", "88/B5-6" etc. (Note sometimes there is no second number after the "/", and sometimes no final "/" either.) JPR numbers may also be of the form "JPR 753" or "JPR N39".

Before 1985, and in 2007, IAS numbers are prefixed by the year, e.g. "1984/72". In a few years before 1985, separate lists of hybrid seed were also offered, and these are numbered here using "x" instead of "/", e.g. "1980x2". After 1984, except in 2007, offerings are represented by a single number, e.g. "133".

Collection numbers for MAW are of the form "327/496" or "326/c". If a leading year is present, as in "10-326/c", it should be omitted.

Collection numbers for PCL are of the form "88001".

Collection numbers for PCO are of the form "1234-56".

Collection numbers for TOM are of the form "123.4". If a leading year is present, as in "09-123.4", it should be omitted.

Collection numbers for VOS are of the form "1-012", "3-039/a".

Note that sometimes more than one plant will be returned with the same field number, for various reasons. For example, some collectors have used numbers to refer to localities rather than specimens collected at that locality.
